Ichiruki Fic Recs MASTER Repository

Bleach has ended and it has ended with gaping plotholes and poorly explained IchiHime and RenRuki. While I disagree with the canon pairings, I can't comment much as I have stopped following Bleach since,,,, the Arrancar arc probably. Gone were the days when I would eagerly wait for new manga chapters and new anime episodes weekly... oh well..

Anyways, to mend my broken heart, I've decided to create a super duper gigantic master Ichiruki fic list! From fics that I loved since the beginning of Bleach with old but gold authors such as Jaina, Debbie-chan, Overtoned and such, to recent finds such as fics by Tosca and maiden-chan, to fix it fics to fix our bleeding Ichiruki hearts, I hope with this post, our starving Ichiruki souls would be slightly satiated in view of the totally unsatisfying ending. Anyways, let's begin!

One Shots
1. Glitter in the Air by empathapahique
Ichigo and Rukia and a hospital room. "The breath before the kiss, the fear before the pain. Have you ever felt this way?" Love with grown up clothes on. (A real world AU)

2. A Thousand Bridges by Kylara
One boy and one shinigami never meet. The lives of Uryuu, Orihime, Renji, Byakuya, and most of all, Ichigo and Rukia.

3. Notes on a High School Scandal by Jaina
The worst rumors are the ones that could be true. During Rukia's stay as a Karakura student, she and Ichigo find out just how true that is.

4. Circles by Jaina
After walking a straight line your whole life, what do you do when there's nowhere left to go?

The next few fics are by Overtoned or Jazzy as she is known. Surprisingly her fics do not get enough love or recs although they are good. All these 3 fics are from her anthology known as the IRAF which is The Ichiruki Anthology FST or Fan Soundtrack. Would really recommend reading while listening to the particular soundtrack for a fuller experience. All her fics are good, so do check them out. In the meantime, these three are my favourites.

5. Aftertaste - Dare You To Move by Overtoned
Thoughts when Rukia decided to stay back in Soul Society post SS arc. Fic 5 of IRAF.

6. Turning Corners - Runaway by Overtoned
Ichigo, Rukia and Renji in an Oliver Twist London AU. IRAF Fic 6.

7. Stay by Overtoned
Ichigo and Rukia in University! 15th part of IRAF. Fluff.

8. Fiction by Overtoned
Ichigo explaining Harry Potter to Rukia. Lolfic! Not a part of the IRAF though.

And here is the link to Overtoned's masterlist of fics! You're welcome! :)

Fushigi Kismet or tokyofish is an awesome author. Her Other Side Of Ordinary 'verse is popular and is most likely already recced in other rec list, but I still think is worth reccing again! Sitting in a tree is my favourite among the lot, although One, Two Buckle My Shoe comes close.

9. Sitting in a Tree by Fushigi Kismet
Ichigo falls out of a tree while visiting from college. Rukia wages war against a firefly and finds a baby. This is about as ordinary as it gets in the Kurosaki household.

10. One, Two Buckle My Shoe by Fushigi Kismet

11. Excerpts from Peter Pan Bleach by Fushigi Kismet
Five excerpts from a Peter Pan Bleach fusion

12. The Great Chappy Murder Mystery by fated-addiction
except it's so not about that. As you can guess, this is not about the wedding plans, yet.

13. An Excellent Taste in Reading Materials by opheliatta
Yuzu finds a magazine in Ichigo's room. All hell breaks loose.

Two Shots
1. Won't You Smile for Me Tonight by Silver Matter
Between the quiet moments of happiness exist moments of too raw reality. Marriage to Ichigo is much more complex than Rukia expected, and his Hollow isn't making it any easier. Of love, family, and finding happiness with and within each other.

2. This Life is More than Ordinary by tosca1390
She will do her job. She always does. Mob AU, y'all

Multi Chaptered
1. Deathsong by Loquacious Quark
Post-series. An accident has unexpected ramifications, and Ichigo suddenly gaces a new life and a new threat in Soul Society. Living is never as simple as it seems.

2. Setting Sun, Rising Moon by Jaina
At the end of his life, it's time for Ichigo to become a real shinigami, but with death comes unexpected challenges - not the least of which is that presented by seeing Rukia again for the first time in years.

3. Cyclical by hastagartistlife
In a peculiar twist of fate, Rukia dies but Ichigo endures. A century later, she's the reincarnated headstrong human teenager and he's the long-suffering shinigami who sort of accidentally may have transferred his powers to her.

Some things are different. Some things are the same.

And some things, it seems will never ever change.

4. Gathering Strawberry by shiguresoen
AU Ichiruki. Beginnings were hardly ever smooth. Falling in love was not the intent. And gahering that so-called strawberry stood to be harder than planned (incomplete).

5. Pocketful of Miracles by rukiahana
Based on the song by Frank Sinatra, this is a story of two college students coming from two different worlds. Somehow their paths collided and were forced to share it. The story of fate, love and learning to complement each other. AU Ichiruki. (incomplete)

6. Falling is Like This by rukiahana
The telltale signs and ultimate how to on falling in love with your best friend. Ichiruki AU
(incomplete)

Crossovers
1. There May Be Some Collateral Damage by metisket
Ichigo's been ordered to go undercover at a magic school to bodyguard a kid named Harry Potter, and tgus wiykd ve fube, except that he's about as good at bodyguarding as he is at magic. And he considers it a good day, magic-wise, if he hasn't set anything on fire. Bleach and HP xover with blink-and-you-miss-it Ichiruki. Still, a very good fic to read.

2. Ouran High School Ghost Club by Finite Sledgehammer
It's Bleach, it's Ouran, it's wacky! When Ouran High is infested with ghosts, who you gonna call? Ghost Bu I mean, your friendly neighbourhood shinigami of course!

Post Chapter 686, Fix-it (and non fix-it) Fics
1. Through Worlds, Worlds, Worlds by thegeneralgirl
Thinking he had been abandoned after his last stand against Yhwach, Ichigo tries to move on. Seven years apart; seven years of regrets.

2. We Have Lost Even This Twilight by tsukara
Post-686. "If Yahwach was goig to come back at Ichigo's happiest moment, his thinking went, then he needed to make sure that he wasn't truly happy ever again." How we got there.

3. Victor by dissonencia
Ichigo, her letter would begin, I do not know what war you've won.

4. The Author is Dead (Long Live the Story) by hashtagartistlife
"We're giving them their happy ending. The ending they deserved. All of them. The fas. The muscial cast. Us. It's up to us.""Well, I've always been a sucker for happy endings." The end of the once popular, long running manga manga Fabric Softener satisfies nobody, least of all Ichigo and Rukia, the lead actors in the manga's musical adaptation. They decide to take things into their own hands.

5. The Soulmate Continuum by ThyFebruaryFace
Some days Rukia thinks death is the easier way out. But then he looks her way, eyes bright, face smiling and then she realizes she is already living dying.

Fried Spaghetti with Roast Pork

Here's the recipe for myself for future reference. Spaghetti Asian style which is not bland. Adapted from Rasa Malaysia. Original link here.

Serves 2

Ingredients:
2 handfuls of spaghetti (I should have counted how many sticks for future reference, sigh)
2 Tbsp chili sauce (I used Life's Thai Chilly Sauce)
1 tsp dark soy sauce (I used Lee Kum Kee Select Dark Soy Sauce)
1 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
3 Tbsp oyster sauce (Lee Kum Kee again)
2 eggs
1 tsp minced garlic
2 stalks siew pak choy
1 carrot
Roast pork
2 Tbsp shao hsing wine
1/4 tsp white pepper (I used a few dashes, omit for Jason's portion)
Method:
Bring a saucepan of water to boil. Add some salt and cook the spaghetti according to packet instructions (minus 2 minutes). In the same saucepan boil the carrots as well till semi soft.
In a small bowl or measuring cup, combine chili sauce, dark soy, sugar, 1/4 tsp salt, oyster sauce. Stir to combine, and set aside.
In a large wok (at least 12 inches in diameter) preheated over high heat, add the oil. Crack the eggs into the wok, stir vigorously until the eggs are lightly scrambled and just set, then add the garlic, noodles, pork, vegetables, and 3/4 cup water. Stir-fry continuously until noodles are cooked, 3-5 minutes (depending on the heat of your wok), making sure to also cook the pork and vegetables. Add chili sauce mixture, and keep stirring until well combined. The noodles should begin to get a bit drier (no liquid left in the bottom of the wok). Add shao hsing wine and white pepper, stir to combine, and remove from heat.

Hyuuga Neji is dead

After a long hiatus from reading manga/watching anime, today I finally decided to catch up on Naruto. And to my horror I found out that Neji has been killed off. Hyuuga Neji! The prodigy of the Hyuuga clan! The stoic genius! Sigh. Sadness abounds. Hope he'll be resuscitated later on (although it'll seriously compromise on the quality of the manga).

It Could Be A Million Times Worse

It could be a million times worse.

We could be separated across continents and timezones.

We could have only seen each other once a year.

He could've been someone who is still looking around.

He could've been someone who has no time for you.

It could definitely be a million times worse.

So I keep telling myself.

An Ikan Bakar Story

There once lived a man and a woman who visited a big shopping centre in a big town. Both man and woman seldom visited big shopping centres, and they enjoyed themselves immensely. Time flew rapidly for them and soon it was time for lunch.

The Big Shopping Centre In The Big City
The Famous Ikan Bakar Store
In this particular shopping centre, there was a very famous stall with famous Portuguese Ikan Bakar. The woman has heard of this stall before and its famous meal has once graced her lips. Indeed the food here was heavenly and she had a strong longing for it. Indeed, the food from there was heavenly.

However, to obtain food from this stall was a challenge.  Packs of hungry man-wolves normally circle this stall, fighting for their own share of food. To be able to get the food requires great skill, cunning and patience.

Packs of hungry wolves... err... men and women surrounding their prey.

In spite of this, the desire to eat from this stall did not disappear and instead grew as they circled the food court looking for alternatives. All the other food looked bland and unappetizing, or so the woman thought. She became miserable the further they walked from the Ikan Bakar stall.

The man, who loved her looked at her and thought, “Sooner than let my lovely lady be miserable, I will bring her some of the ikan bakar myself, no matter what the cost."

Brave knight sets out on his quest for  FOOOOOOD!

Hence, he steeled himself and joined the braying pack at the stall. It took all his wits, courage and patience but he persevered. Once or twice, he thought all might be lost due to some unscrupulous wolves, in the end though, Lady Luck smiled upon him.

The fruit of his labours - the tastiest lunch ever!
And he managed to procure the tastiest lunch for his lady love, won her unending appreciation and adoration and they all lived...

Trying not to lose the forest for the trees

Being in a long distance relationship harbours challenges of many sorts. Often a misspoken or a mistyped word can be very easily taken out of context, and depending on my state of mind at that moment, I could get very easily upset.

Of course, due to age and (perceived) maturity, I try not to let this small petty things matter and to resolve them as soon as possible. He also does his part by apologising often (although it's not always his fault) and by assuring me how much he loves me. Still, sometimes, although apologies were made and "I love yous" are said, I'd still go to bed unhappy, although it'll disappear very rapidly the next day, especially when accompanied by an uplifting text from him.

However, whenever he visits, any discontent will rapidly disappear and suddenly all things will seem very fine again. We'd laugh and giggle and joke and needle each other, like we never ever had any disagreements before. The euphoria will last throughout the visit, and we'll do all the stuff loving bfs and gfs do. However of course, once the visit ends, a great vast feeling of emptiness pervades and echoes of memories stir up feelings of melancholy, till the next visit of course.

Despite our occasional disagreements, I miss him a lot and I wish there is no distance. Of course, he'd counsel patience and for me to see the final picture and not get lost in today's struggles. Of which I shall attempt to take to heart. And of which, he obviously applies religiously, seeing that he is still putting up with me despite my occasional tantrums and weird idiosyncracies.
